Automatic Control System for Hydrogen Generator by Water Electrolysis

A monitoring system in hydrogen plant consists of HMI, control cabinet and primary instruments, etc.


The touch screen (Operating screen) which has been designed and manufactured together with PLC is usually chosen to act as Human-Machine Interface (HMI). The monitoring software is dependent upon the different type of PLC. The HMI in the whole control system is used to monitor the operation of the system, setting the plant’s set-points and manual choices for operating conditions of starting-and-halting, gas purifying and gas storage, etc. Normally all automatic control parameters for the H2 generating plant are shown in the HMI.


The control cabinet is the key part of the entire monitoring system to maintain the safety and stable running of the complete set of equipments.


The H2 gas leakage should be detected all the time automatically for the hydrogen generating system. There are two hydrogen gas leakage detectors to monitor the H2 gas leakage. Supposing there is any H2 gas leakage happened, the detector will immediately send a signal to control program to trip the hydrogen generating system and meanwhile, the electrical fan will be started automatically to vent the air indoors to outside for elimination of H2 gas. Further more, there are one portable hydrogen leakage detector for the operator to monitor the hydrogen leakage or not. These measures can be assured to protect the hydrogen generating room from hydrogen accumulated for safety and reliability.
